Pour concrete wall by hand or with the pump

Pouring a concrete wall is relatively easy if all the work steps are carried out thoroughly. In addition to the correct concrete mix, a properly founded foundation must be in place. The cladding is of particular importance, as it must be stable and tight. Experienced do-it-yourselfers can do it.

Shovel or pump

Depending on the length and height of the concrete wall, the concrete can be mixed with a shovel or created in a concrete mixer. Intensive and frequent shoveling requires a lot of effort, which is why a concrete pump is recommended for larger projects. This method has the lowest costs.

Before a concrete wall is poured, a concrete foundation must be completed, set and dried out. A strip foundation is common, which forms the supporting substructure under the entire course of the wall. If necessary, reinforcing steel bars can protrude from the foundation.

Make concrete wall yourself

When making the concrete wall yourself, the method of concrete production should be determined in advance. You can choose between mixing ready-mixed concrete and water by hand or your own production from cement, sand, water, stones and, if necessary, aggregates.

The manual work with a shovel can be done by a concrete mixer. All components of the concrete must be shoveled into the mixer in the correct proportions and, after mixing, brought into the formwork and poured in as quickly as possible. A wheelbarrow is the typical transport vehicle.
When professional construction companies pour a concrete wall, they typically use a concrete pump. This can be supplied as a single device with fresh concrete from a mixer or pumped directly into the formwork from the ready-mixed concrete vehicle using a giraffe neck.
