In the manufacture of exposed aggregate concrete slabs, the upper layer is washed out so that an irregular pebble stone surface is created. This reduces the weight of exposed aggregate concrete compared to solid concrete slabs. The decisive factors are the type of concrete, the depth of the leaching and the size of the aggregates.
15 and 25 kilogram squares
Exposed aggregate concrete slabs consist of normal concrete with an average density of 2.4 tons per cubic meter. They are mainly produced as square pavement, terrace and floor slabs with sides measuring forty and fifty centimeters. The basic basis weight, disregarding the washout, is around 15 kilograms with a plate thickness of four centimeters and a side length of forty centimeters. With a side length of fifty centimeters and a thickness of five centimeters, each exposed aggregate concrete slab weighs around 25 kilograms.

There are two production methods for exposed aggregate concrete slabs. They are either pressed into a mold in which your setting retarder has been introduced, or they are washed out directly. Different leaching depths can be achieved with both variants. Compared to solid concrete slabs, the washout reduces the weight of the exposed aggregate concrete slabs by up to ten percent.
Variables that additionally influence the weight are the rock proportions, sizes and shapes of the pebbles. While there is only a very slight reduction in weight with small and broken grains, large, round grains have a greater effect on the weight.
Base concrete and washout
Calculated per square meter, for example, exposed aggregate concrete slabs made of Rhine gravel with a grain size of eight to 16 millimeters and four millimeters thick weigh around ninety kilograms, and five centimeters thick weigh around 108 kilograms. The weight changes depending on the grain size, with larger grain sizes having a specifically higher dead weight. In exposed aggregate concrete, this increase in density is compensated for by the correspondingly deeper leaching and has hardly any influence on the total weight.
With exposed aggregate concrete slabs, the weight of the base concrete is usually in the tightness range of 2.3 to 2.5 tons per cubic meter. To calculate the weight of an individual panel, the side length and side length must be multiplied by the panel thickness in the unit of measurement. The result corresponds to the volume of the exposed aggregate concrete slab. The volume is multiplied by the density of the base concrete in the unit of measurement kilograms to get the weight without taking into account the leaching.
A rectangular exposed aggregate concrete slab is forty and sixty centimeters wide and six centimeters thick. The density of the base concrete is 2.5 tons per cubic meter. After converting the units of measurement into meters and kilograms, the result is the weight in kilograms:
0.4 meters by 0.6 meters by 0.06 meters by 2500 kilograms = 36.0 kilograms
In principle, when calculating for transport and motion, the weight of washed concrete plates such as the weight with corresponding solid concrete plates should be expected.
