Connect the bathroom fan

Odors or moisture can sometimes be difficult to remove, especially in internal bathrooms without windows. A ventilation system in the bathroom prevents that. But how do you connect a bathroom fan and can you do that even as a layperson??

What is necessary for good bathroom ventilation?

A tarnished mirror and wet tiles are the first signs of too much moisture in the room. The humid, warm climate is a germination site for mold, especially for the joints in the bathroom. If your bathroom is always damp, you should consider connecting a bathroom fan.

You can buy electric bathroom fans in any hardware store. There are bathroom fans with and without additional functions. You can turn it on with the light switch or combine it with a timer and humidity sensor. The latter can still be regulated automatically or manually via a switch.

Which variant is connected how?

Connect bathroom fan without additional function

If you opt for a simple fan without additional functions, you will usually control it using the light switch. This means that when the light source is switched on, the fan is also started.
1. Connect the live phase (L) and the neutral conductor (N) to your power line.
2. The live phase (L) is branched off from the light switch.
3. A connection to the protective conductor (PE) is not required because the bathroom fan is made of plastic.
4th. Alternatively, the fan can also be operated via a separate switch.

Connect bathroom fan with timer and moisture sensor in automatic mode

If you would like to connect your bathroom fan via an overrun function and a moisture sensor, you do not need a separate switch for automatic operation.
1. Connect the live phase (L) and the neutral conductor (N) to your power line. The bathroom fan works automatically.
2. Set the follow-up time and the threshold value of the humidity sensor using the corresponding potentiometer on the fan.
3. A connection to the protective conductor (PE) is also not required.

Connect bathroom fan with timer and humidity sensor via separate switch

The installation of an additional switch has the advantage that you can use both automatic mode and intervene if, for example, additional ventilation is required.
1. Connect the live phase (L) and the neutral conductor (N) to your power line.
2. The light switch is connected in parallel via the neutral conductor (N).
3. A connection to the protective conductor (PE) is also not required.
4th. When switched off, the fan always runs in automatic mode. If the switch is actuated, the fan runs until the switch is actuated again, then again in automatic mode.
