Mount the window sill on the heater - that's possible?

With floor-to-ceiling windows in particular, it is often difficult to mount a window sill over a heater in front of it. Skylights also sometimes cause problems. You can read about the mounting options on the radiator itself and how to attach them in these instructions.

Fixing options for window sills

Window sills can be installed in an existing window reveal without major problems. They are then pushed into a milled slot on the sides and sealed with silicone. As a result, they stick to the lower window reveal without any problems and are also extremely resilient.

Problems arise on the one hand with roof windows but also with floor-to-ceiling windows. However, this problem can be solved if a heater is installed in front of it.

Use the windowsill

Window sills above the heater also prevent dust and small objects from getting between the radiator's fins and behind the radiator. In addition, they offer a stable storage space.

Heat-sensitive objects cannot be placed on the top of the radiator, even with the cover in place, as it is too hot. However, this works without any problems on a window sill attached above.

System clamp carrier

There are so-called clamp brackets for all commercially available panel radiators. These can be mounted on the radiators without any problems. The radiator is not damaged in the process. On the top of the clamp carrier there is a carrier for a plate at an adjustable height. The plate is only clamped there.

Installing a window sill over a radiator - step by step

  • Clamp carrier
  • Window sill
  • screwdriver
  • Tape measure

1. Fasten the clamp brackets

Place the clamp brackets on the radiator at regular intervals (measure). Use enough clamp brackets to create a stable hold for your support board.

2. Tighten the brackets

Screw the clamp brackets down through the radiator at the desired points using the threaded rods (€ 14.50 on Amazon *) until they are firmly fixed.

3. Fasten the window sill

Slide the brackets on top, insert the window sill and slide the brackets back together until the window sill is firmly clamped. Screw the bracket tight until the board is firmly attached.

Tips & Tricks By attaching the window sill to the radiator, you can possibly save yourself a wall attachment, which is associated with a lot of effort (drilling, dowels, setting angles) and which is often less stable.
