A wooden facade can stand up well in solidly built houses. Defects can be covered with the wooden facade and the outer walls can be subsequently insulated. The later treatment with wood protection and paint is done in adaptation to the existing doors and windows.
Wooden facade on the solid house
Houses are also getting old and their exterior is damaged. Rough damage and cracks in the facade have to be repaired before cladding with wood. Further purely cosmetic repairs are not necessary, however, as the facade disappears behind the wooden cladding.

Older solid houses with poor thermal insulation benefit from a retrofitted wooden facade with external insulation. In an old building, for example, the energy requirement can be reduced considerably if additional cladding with insulation is installed.
Layers of the insulated wooden facade
To build the wooden facade, basic battens and insulation are installed on the outer wall. Usually an insulation layer of eight to ten centimeters is sufficient. This depends on the nature of your exterior walls. The wind barrier follows the insulation layer as a film. Another layer is formed by the next battens with rear ventilation. Finally, the facade cladding is installed.

- Diagonal profiles loosen up the look.
Loads on the wooden facade
Sun and rain put a strain on the wood of the facade cladding. Roof overhangs offer a certain protection. The distance between the cladding and the floor should be at least 30 centimeters in the plinth area. Splash water and road salt hardly ever get to the wood paneling. If the boards are undercut at an angle, the rainwater can drain away more easily and does not settle in the wooden joints.Tips & Tricks The wooden cladding on the base of the house is particularly exposed to rain and splashing water. This is where the boards get damaged the fastest and have to be replaced over the years. Horizontal cladding makes it easier to replace individual boards.
