1. Disassemble

If at all possible, you should dismantle the wooden cabinet as much as possible. Drawers and doors should at least be removed. Place these pieces next to the furniture on old newspaper. Also unscrew the furniture knobs and handles for the painting.

2. Sanding

All wood surfaces used must be sanded well so that the pores of the wood open so wide that the paint can be absorbed. In the case of new surfaces, you should only run the sandpaper over the wood a few times.

3. Dilute paint

While a synthetic resin-based varnish was often used in the past, acrylic paint is more suitable for a wooden cabinet in a country house style. This is because acrylic can easily be diluted with water. You can even create a whitewashed impression on the wood. Pour some paint into the paint bowl and use a measuring cup to first add a little water.

4th. painting

The more perfect the paint should be, the more often you will have to paint the wooden cabinet white with thinned acrylic paint. If the paint is thinned, a wide brush is much better than a paint roller. Make sure you always paint in the direction of the grain of the wood with very little paint. Be stingy so the paint doesn't run and make ugly noses.

5. Assemble

When the parts of the cabinet are dry and you have achieved the desired result, you can reinstall the doors and insert the drawers. If desired, you can now also add new porcelain furniture knobs, which might better suit the style you want.

Tips & Tricks After buying new furniture, think twice about whether you want to paint it in a beautiful pastel shade. Until the furniture is assembled, painting a wooden cabinet is a lot easier.
