Tinker with coffee filters

You can make all sorts of beautiful things out of coffee filters. In the following you will find suggestions and great craft ideas that you can easily implement with your little ones without a lot of tools.

Make animals out of coffee filters

Due to its shape, the coffee filter is perfect as a body for numerous animal motifs. So you can z.B. Make rabbits, bears or even a Santa Claus, an imp or an angel out of it.

Paint the coffee filter

The first coffee filters were made from blotting paper and even today the coffee filter paper is very absorbent and similar to blotting paper. It is therefore perfect for painting abstract structures on it with water color. Due to the high absorbency of the coffee filters, the color runs and great, batik-like color combinations are created.

Make a butterfly out of coffee filters

  • Watercolors
  • Tear-proof coffee filter
  • Some colored paper, preferably brown or black
  • Wire, pipe cleaners, toothpicks, blades of grass or the like for the feelers
  • Liquid glue
  • scissors
  • brush

1. Paint the wings

Do not unfold the coffee filter yet, paint it in its original shape. This will give you two wings with the same pattern later.

Paint the coffee filter with several colors and plenty of water so that the colors flow nicely. If you want to draw delicate figures or gradients, however, you should use very little water.

Then let the filter dry. You can help by placing it on the heater or drying it with a hair dryer.

2. Make two out of one

After drying, carefully separate the filter into two parts. Be careful not to tear it! You now have two wings.

3. The body

Cut out an elongated, oval shape for the body from the colored paper. Glue the lower ends of both wings (which used to be the lower end of the coffee filter) underneath.

4th. The feelers

Now attach the feelers with a little glue and your butterfly made of coffee filters is ready.

Make several butterflies and use them to decorate your children's room or cut off a few branches and decorate the green branches in a vase with them!

Tips & Tricks If the coffee filter is halved too thin, you can have a complete one for each side. Then you have to try manually to paint the wings the same or they just look different.
