The pedestals, also known as slab bearings, are a practical auxiliary construction to lay concrete slabs easily and with good water drainage. The inexpensive plastic products are available in rigid form or with height adjustment.
Pedestals consist of a circular plastic disc on which a cross joint is attached. There are rigid and adjustable pedestals that can also be used to compensate for height using different techniques. The rigid variants usually have a foot ring onto which the compensating rings can be attached. The joint cross, on which the corners of the concrete slabs are placed, is then usually attached to the ring on top using plug-in technology.

The pedestal, which can be continuously adjusted in height using a central thread, consist of a round base into which a round bolt with an external thread is screwed into the internal thread of the base. A screw-on ring with an internal thread and cross bars is screwed to the required height and can be adjusted with millimeter precision by turning any number of turns. A second variant is pedestal with four independently adjustable threaded screw connections. Each corner of the concrete slab can be adjusted individually.
Water runs off through open joints
Flat solid surfaces such as screed or heavily compacted earth are suitable as a support surface for pedestals. Placing the concrete slabs creates a cavity under the laying surface through which the water that penetrates through the open joints can run off. The cavity height can be adjusted and increased depending on the construction project or the expected occurrence of precipitation. Theoretically, cavities up to fifty centimeters are possible.

Pedestals, both rigid and adjustable, consist of several individual parts. Depending on the intended height adjustment, support and intermediate rings must be added to the basic prices of the individual pedestal. Special closing elements for the edges of the laying surface of the concrete slabs are to be considered as extra items, whereby pedestals with single threads cannot be used as closing elements.
