paint deep ground

For renovation work, the preparation of the wall can be decisive for the subsequent result. A deep primer reduces the absorbency of mineral substrates such as plaster or gypsum and allows tiles, paint or wallpaper to adhere well.

What is Tiefengrund?

All primers that are applied to interior walls are called deep primers (4.81 € on Amazon *) . The preparation of the walls is one of the most important tasks before tiling, painting or wallpapering, so that everything adheres well later.

If the subsurface is absorbent, porous or if it is sanding, the deep primer has a strengthening and at the same time balancing effect on the absorbency. If the wall does not adhere, it ensures a good hold.

There are two different ways Tiefengrund works:

Reduce absorbency

This primer is intended to reduce the absorbency of the wall. Especially fresh plaster sucks colors and wallpaper glue. Even with an unevenly sucking wall, no uniform color coating comes about and wallpapers are liable bad.

The absorbency can be checked by splashing some water against the wall. If the water is immediately incorporated, a depth reason must be deleted. Just as the water is absorbed by the wall, it also happens to the wallpaper glue and the adhesion is lost.

Improve adhesion

In contrast to the strongly sucking walls, there are those that are too smooth and no liability. For example, to attach tiles to this substrate, it must first be made adhesive to keep the tile adhesive.

Again, the absorbency can be checked. If the water sprayed on the wall runs off and does not move in, you have a non-adhering surface, which also requires a primer.

Tips & Tricks If you choose a pigmented, i.e. colored, deep primer, you can estimate exactly where you have already painted and where there is still a need for the primer.
