Countless types of concrete paving stones

In contrast to natural paving stones, the concrete products are manufactured in precise dimensions. It is therefore possible to create very precise patterns and structures, the selection and appearance of which are further enhanced by colored concrete types and different surface textures. Using modern mixing techniques, the water absorption and drainage properties are adapted to requirements, intended use and the weight load. Due to the uniform shape, auxiliary machines can sometimes be used when laying large areas.

Individual concrete paving stones or concrete composite stones

The industry makes two groups of concrete paving stones. Individual concrete blocks are available in rectangular, square and round shapes. Similar to natural stone paving stones, they can be set individually and joined together according to the rules of paving associations or freely chosen. The concrete composite blocks form a fixed paving bond that is determined by the shape of the individual blocks. A popular example is the so-called bone stone, which is set in a fixed bandage due to its special shape. For both types of concrete paving blocks, machine-generated decorations, textures, and optical treatments are available in many forms. Mixing of coloring ingredients such as pigments or white cement in the concrete changes the color. Various types of surface processing, such as grinding or milling, give the stones very different looks. The so-called rumble, in which irregular stone edges are created, creates an antique look. Mixing in pebbles or natural stone is also possible.

Common arrangements and patterns of concrete paving

The simplest geometric arrangement of a plaster bandage is the row and diagonal bandage. The rectangular concrete paving stones are laid parallel on the long sides and are offset by half their length. Many manufacturers offer their products with spacers such as concrete noses that are created by the casting mold. These assembly aids are also available for the Roman Association, where different sizes of rectangular and square concrete paving stones are used. For large areas, a basic pattern is usually repeated that follows a few rules. Joints should not cross each other, no more than two paving stones of the same shape should be directly next to each other and very long joint lengths should be avoided. Symmetrical associations are created in the decorative association, in which rectangular patterns are created by vertical and horizontal mirroring and rotating. Composite stones such as bone stone or mosaic-like rhombuses or arches are in some cases already grouped together in larger laying units.
