exposed aggregate concrete - the right coating for the new look

Coating exposed aggregate concrete is a treatment to renew or beautify the surface. This project is recommended if you want to make the panels wear-resistant and weather-resistant again or if you are aiming for a new color. The right products with the necessary properties are essential for this.

Suitable coatings

In order for the project to succeed, you need to rely on the appropriate coatings. A classic lacquer is not suitable for this purpose due to the nature of the surface, as it is not resistant enough. For example, if you want to lay exposed aggregate concrete on the ground, the coating must be abrasion-resistant and weather-resistant, for which the following products are suitable:

  • Epoxy casting resin
  • Garage seal (e.g.B. Gelcoat)
  • Concrete finish

A big advantage of the products is the choice of colors. Epoxy resin in particular is available in a variety of colors if you want to paint over the characteristic look of the exposed aggregate concrete. Otherwise, clear epoxy resin will do just fine for your purposes. Different colors are also available for the other products. In addition to the coating itself, you also need the following utensils for a smooth workflow:

  • working gloves
  • safety goggles
  • Respirator
  • Painter's brush
  • high pressure cleaner
  • Epoxy resin
  • optional: primer (€ 36.80 at Amazon *)

Preparation of the exposed aggregate

Before you can apply the coating, you must prepare the washing concrete. For this it is thoroughly sprayed with the high-pressure cleaner, so that dirt, sand and other foreign bodies are removed. Then dry the plates completely dry. Last but not least, apply the adhesive reason according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Washing concrete coating: instructions

1. Apply first layer

Drag the protective clothing and open the selected product. Pour or wear it with the painterquast until a complete layer is created.

2. Apply further layers

After the first layer, you must apply more until a smooth surface is created. The final layer thickness with washed concrete is between 1 and 2 cm because the surface of the plates is not flat. Each layer must dry for two to four hours before the next one is in turn.

3. let dry

The last layer must be dried on average 48 to 72 hours. The ideal temperature should not fall below 15 ° C. 20 ° C to 25 ° C are ideal. Otherwise it can take a week for the coating to be dried.
