Double the water connection - How it works

Depending on the need, a single water connection is not always sufficient. For this reason, many people think about how several consumers can be connected to one connection at the same time. Fortunately, there are ways to safely double the water connection without much effort. You don't even have to drill for this.

Double the water connection with a Y-distributor

It is not difficult to double a water connection, even if it is the faucet in the garden. You don't have to drill any holes or change anything on the pipes. This significantly reduces the effort and the project is completed within a few moments. You only need a suitable Y-distributor.

A Y-distributor is an attachment that provides two additional connections. These are in a Y and thus enable problem-free connection without the hoses touching or getting in the way. The distributor is simply screwed onto the existing water connection and can be used immediately. Do not forget to insert the seal as well.

Tips about the project

1. Y-distributor with lever

If you do not want continuous operation on both connections, use a distributor with levers. This enables the continuous regulation of the water flow.

2. thread

Usually the distributors are offered for 1/2 or 3/4 inch threads. Before buying, check which thread your water connection has, so that you do not buy the wrong attachment. You do not only have to use the external thread, but the internal one so that the distributor fits

3. Note the water pressure

If you have decided to double a water connection with Y-distributors, it is essential to consider the water pressure of your pipe. Why? If the line has enough pressure, you can easily run two devices at the same time, for example a washing machine and a dishwasher. If, on the other hand, there is not enough pressure on the line, you have to switch the devices on alternately.

If you operate both machines at the same time with too little pressure, there will not be enough water available. This significantly reduces performance and, for example, your laundry will not be properly clean. You should therefore check in advance that the connection will provide enough pressure.
