Water ionizer - how does it work, and does it bring something?

So-called basic water or ionized water is advertised many times. It is manufactured using a so-called water ionizer. How this works, what benefits it brings, and what is to be thought of it in general are therefore explained here.

Ionizer technology

Most manufacturers do not reveal what exactly is going on in the water ionizer. It is important for manufacturers to sell a large number of devices. The end product is the so-called basic water.

Due to its mineral content, alkaline water has a pH value that is greater than 7.0. The Drinking Water Ordinance also allows this. According to their limit values, drinking water can have a pH value of between 6.5 and 9.5, i.e. it can also be basic.

The assumption is plausible that the natural mineralization is exchanged during the treatment of the drinking water in the ionizer. It is exchanged - probably with the help of ion exchangers - for a combination of minerals that give the water a higher pH value.

Minerals and pH

The lower the mineral content of water, the more acidic it appears. The pH drops. On the other hand, if the mineralization increases, the pH value can rise. It does not only depend on the amount of dissolved salts, but also on the type of mineral salts.

Such a connection can often also be clearly observed in medicinal water, which has a particularly high amount of minerals. Despite the high mineral content in all waters of this type, the pH values are sometimes significantly different.

Alleged health effects

Basically acting water is supposed to balance a "acidic" body. It should be healthy, removing free radicals and balancing a balancing effect on our allegedly through stress, false diet and environmental pollution chronically acidified bodies.

This should also be healed or relieved with "overall" related diseases, such as rheumatism, stomach pain, chronic fatigue and irritability.

Criticism of the impact hypothesis

Water always represents a weakly buffered acidity or base. His pH changes very light and very quickly with the pH of the respective environment in which it reaches.

The first environment in which water reaches after drinking is the stomach. There is a pH of between 1.0 and 1.5.

When a lot of basic water is drunk, the stomach acid can buffer. This can cause the stomach to produce even more stomach acid. Digestive problems and heartburn can be the result.

Tips & Tricks Complex interactions within the body, such as the complex acid-base balance, cannot simply be generalized. The whole body is neither acidic nor is the whole body basic. The pH value cannot be influenced simply by drinking special waters or taking certain substances.
